About us.
The Stevens Creek Striders started running in 1981, near our current location, and we’ve been meeting at the Reservoir since the 90’s. Since 1982, the club has managed the Last Chance Aid Station at Western States, where we are the longest-serving club.
In the mid-80’s, Hobee’s on Stevens Creek Blvd opened. The Striders were some of its first and most loyal patrons, and – until the restaurant’s closing in 2020 – there was always reserved seating for our Saturday morning brunches, where club photos adorned the walls. Now, our Saturday brunches are at Holder’s, and we hope to dine there for many more years.
The club’s focus is on community over direct competition, but that community does often lead its members to achieve the incredible. In 1995, Strider Mark Williams was the first person to complete the Barkley Marathons. In 2023, Mandie Holmes represented the United States at the 24-Hour World Championships. Out on the trails, enthusiasm is contagious, friends help each other, and runners end up excelling in races that they might never have thought possible.
The Striders are a sister club to Quicksilver Running Club, with some overlapping memberships, and we also help each other out at various events.
